Judo Returns to Upper Austria as Grand Prix Action Begins in Linz

The World Judo Tour has once again made its way to the scenic landscapes of Upper Austria, with the Tips Arena Linz serving as the venue for the opening day of the Grand Prix. Spectators were treated to a series of intense matches, marking the start of a competitive weekend in the region.

The event kicked off with a ceremonial gathering that featured IJF Head Sport Director Mr Vladimir Barta, Upper Austria Governor Mr Thomas Stelzer, and Austrian Judo Federation President Dr Martin Poiger. Their presence underscored the significance of the tournament, which draws international attention to the local area.

-48 kg Final

In the first category, Japan’s Mitsuki KONDO faced Spain’s Eva PEREZ SOLER. KONDO’s execution of a Tai-otoshi followed by a hold down secured her victory, earning her a second grand prix gold in Upper Austria. Governor Stelzer presented the medals to the winners.

-60 kg Category

France’s Romain VALADIER PICARD, who claimed gold in the same division in 2023, sought a repeat performance. His low seoi-otoshi move allowed him to reclaim the top position, with IJF Education & Coaching Director Mr Mohammed MERIDJA awarding the medal.

-52 kg Match

Japan’s Iroha OI triumphed over Hungary’s Roza GYERTYAS after an early yuko score. The Austrian Olympic Committee’s president, Mr Horst NUSSBAUMER, presented the gold to OI, who now adds this win to her growing list of achievements.

-66 kg Final

The -66 kg division saw a thrilling showdown between Azerbijan’s Ruslan PASHAYEV and Brazil’s Ronald LIMA. Both competitors scored a yuko, leading to a golden score. PASHAYEV’s well-timed ashi waza move sealed his victory, with IJF Head Sport Director Mr Vladimir BARTA presenting the medals.

-57 kg Division

The -57 kg category concluded with an all-Japan final, where Ayami TAKANO secured her first Grand Prix gold through a masterfully executed shime-waza. IJF Head Referee Director Mr Armen BAGDASAROV was responsible for awarding the honor.
