Jorginho Withdraws Criticism of Chappell Roan

Midfielder Jorginho, a decorated player with Italy and Chelsea, has clarified that Chappell Roan was not involved in an incident at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where a security guard reportedly upset his daughter during a breakfast encounter. The 34-year-old Italian national initially accused Roan’s staff of confronting Catherine Harding and their 11-year-old daughter Ada, claiming the situation unfolded as described in a recent Instagram post.

Roan responded to the allegations, expressing empathy for the mother and child. She stated,

“I feel sad for the mother and child who did not deserve that,”

but emphasized that she had no prior knowledge of the event and that the security guard was not acting under her personal employ.

Jorginho has now confirmed the security guard was affiliated with a different artist, stating,

“the situation did occur as described”

and that the teams involved had communicated directly. He added that the guard had “confirmed publicly he was representing another artist at the hotel at the time,” resolving the confusion. The midfielder, who holds dual Brazilian citizenship and currently plays for Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, also noted Roan had reached out privately to Catherine, showing goodwill.

The incident sparked media coverage in Brazil, with Rio de Janeiro’s mayor Eduardo Cavaliere suggesting a potential ban on Roan’s performances in the city. Jorginho acknowledged the public reaction, stating he does not “support or encourage hate speech or online attacks from any side.” He concluded,

“I am glad to set the record straight. It is important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family.”

Despite the resolution, Jorginho noted that the security guard’s actions seemed unexpected, stating,

“While we still do not know what prompted him to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old could reasonably be seen as a security threat, it is now clear he was not acting on behalf of Chappell.”

He emphasized his commitment to defending his family while recognizing the need for clarity in the matter.
