Two arrested after boy killed and two hurt in crash

Two Arrested Following Fatal Collision Involving Teenagers

Flitwick Incident Under Investigation

Authorities have detained a man and a woman following a crash that resulted in the death of one boy and left two others with severe injuries. The incident occurred on Greenfield Road in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, at 10:50 PM BST on Friday. A vehicle collided with three teenagers, two of whom were riding bicycles and one on a scooter. One of the boys was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The driver fled the scene, but a blue BMW with substantial damage was later discovered on a nearby street, according to police. The two arrested, both in their early twenties, are being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, exceeding the legal alcohol limit, and surpassing the allowed amount of a controlled substance. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.

“Our priority is supporting the family of the boy who lost his life and the families of the injured teenagers,” stated Det Sgt Shona Searle from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “We are examining multiple leads to understand what happened and urge anyone with dashcam, doorbell camera, or CCTV footage to reach out promptly.”

Residents and witnesses are encouraged to report any information related to the incident through the BBC’s online platform or by calling 101 and referencing Operation Birch. Updates on this case will continue to be shared via BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
