Trump issues expletive-laden threat to Iran over Hormuz Strait blockage
Trump Extends Ultimatum to Iran Amid Hormuz Dispute
Following the downing of a US fighter jet over Iran, US President Donald Trump issued a bold warning on social media, vowing to target the country’s power plants and bridges if it did not clear the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday. The threat, filled with strong language, was accompanied by a renewed call for diplomatic resolution, though he emphasized the possibility of escalation. Trump’s remarks came after the successful recovery of a second US crew member from a rescue operation deep within Iranian territory.
The incident occurred as tensions escalated in the region, with Iran having halted normal traffic through the critical waterway for over a month. This action triggered a sharp rise in global oil prices and raised concerns about potential inflation worldwide. Trump had previously set a deadline for Iran to reopen the strait, which was initially scheduled for Monday, 6 April. However, he extended it to Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time, signaling a shift in his approach.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Iran swiftly dismissed the warning, labeling it as “helpless, nervous, and stupid.” Gen Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, head of the country’s central military command, added that “the gates of hell will open” for the US leader. The remarks echoed the broader conflict, which has seen Iran retaliate against US and Israeli strikes with attacks on Gulf allies. Recent strikes included a civilian petrochemical facility in Israel, with a ballistic missile hitting a residential building in Haifa and injuring four individuals.
Meanwhile, the US and Israel continued their military operations, with Israeli forces targeting Iranian infrastructure. On Sunday, an attack on the Qasem Soleimani international airport in southwestern Iran followed a Saturday strike on a petrochemical site. Iran, in turn, has launched drones and missiles at US allies in the Gulf, including incidents that damaged oil facilities in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.
