Emergency services in La Gomera, Canary Islands, confirmed that a bus carrying British tourists plunged into a ravine, resulting in one fatality and 27 injuries. The incident occurred near San Sebastián de La Gomera, as reported by Spanish outlet El Mundo. The vehicle descended from a height of 10 meters, with 28 individuals onboard, including 27 British visitors and the driver, according to 112 Canarias’ X post.
Mountainous Route and Dramatic Impact
The bus was traveling along the GM-2 road, a winding path through rugged terrain known for its tight turns. An image shared by emergency personnel suggests the accident happened close to a hairpin bend. Head of emergency operations Héctor Cabrera, speaking to public broadcaster TVE, noted that the passengers were staying at a resort on the island.
Medical Response and Hospitalizations
Following the crash, a medical helicopter and five ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Of the injured, three were reported in critical condition. Most were transported to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, located on the island’s eastern coast, while two severely hurt individuals were airlifted to hospitals on the neighboring island of Tenerife.
