EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Diana dress designer’s companies both go bust

More than three decades after Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral, the iconic wedding attire designed by David Emanuel for the couple has become a symbol of a once-celebrated legacy. The ivory silk taffeta gown, adorned with lace and featuring a 25-foot train, was watched by millions globally during the 1981 ceremony.

Designer’s financial downfall

Despite the global acclaim for the gown, David Emanuel’s professional journey has faced significant challenges. Both of his ventures, Licensed to Design and Renaissance Man, have been declared insolvent, with combined debts reaching nearly £300,000. Recent filings reveal £280,443 in liabilities for Licensed to Design, established in 2002, and £33,000 owed to Ovo Energy by Renaissance Man, founded in 2018.

Assets valued at £164,000 are deemed ‘uncertain to realise’ by Emanuel, who also lists £72,000 in corporation tax debt to HMRC and £103,000 to NatWest Bank. His director’s loans of £60,000 and fixtures worth £96,000 are similarly marked as questionable. These disclosures come as part of Statements of Affairs submitted to liquidators.

Personal and professional strains

After his 2013 appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, where he competed as a runner-up, Emanuel faced financial strain following his separation from Elizabeth. This personal challenge coincided with the collapse of his businesses, which now weigh heavily on his current assets and obligations.

Meanwhile, Grace Beverley, 29, shares her journey through a new pregnancy, her first with husband Amar Daved. The entrepreneur, known for founding Tala and the fitness app Shreddy, expresses a mix of emotions during this milestone. She admits, ‘Both of us are more stressed than excited because we lost our last pregnancy,’ reflecting on the emotional toll of their previous loss.

A medical emergency and gratitude

Strictly Come Dancing star Erin Boag recounts a harrowing incident involving her 11-year-old son, Ewan. During a game with friends, Ewan’s finger was severed in an accident, prompting an urgent trip to the hospital. At St George’s, where plastic surgery is specialized, medical professionals performed an operation to save his finger.

“When I say severed, I mean severed,” says Boag, highlighting the severity of the injury. She credits the NHS for the recovery, stating, “Everything is now looking up for Ewan. He’ll be back to sport and playing the piano, and that’s all because of the NHS.”

Family legacy and fashion flair

Tali Lennox, 33, embraced a dramatic Medieval-inspired look for her birthday, complete with a brown pagan-style dress, a gothic circlet, and a vintage pendant. Her father, film producer Uri Fruchtmann, has influenced her eclectic style, which she previously described as a reflection of her diverse tastes.
