Child Killed in Suspected Dog Attack Was Baby Girl
Police Confirmed the Death of a Three-Month-Old Girl
Authorities in Redcar have confirmed the death of a three-month-old infant following a suspected dog attack. The incident occurred at an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday, after reports raised concerns about a child’s safety.
Dogs Neutralized by Officers
Upon arrival, armed police destroyed two dogs—one on the street and another at the premises. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dangerously out-of-control dog to cause fatal injuries. He has since been released on conditional bail.
Woman Injured in the Attack
A 31-year-old woman sustained an arm injury during the incident and was hospitalized for treatment. Both dogs involved were evaluated by a specialist officer and deemed not to belong to any banned breeds.
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this heartbreaking event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, overseeing local policing. “We will maintain a police presence at the location as the inquiry proceeds. I urge everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this challenging period.”
Appeal for Witness Information
Officers have urged the public to share any details, including video footage, related to the incident. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances leading to the child’s death, which is believed to have resulted from a dog bite.
