Iranian defence chief who issued sinister warning to Trump is killed in airstrike

An Iranian authority that recently issued a dire warning to Donald Trump and vowed to ‘remove’ the United States has fallen victim to a missile strike. The attack marked the end of Ali Larijani, a key figure in the Supreme National Security Council, according to Iran’s Defence Ministry.

The Israeli military confirmed their strike targeted Larijani, alongside the Basji paramilitary force’s leader. The IDF described the operation as a deliberate action against high-ranking officials linked to Iran’s security apparatus.

‘The nation of Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those bigger than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Watch yourselves, or you might be eliminated!’

Larijani was involved in the interim leadership council, which guided Iran’s transition following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei. The Basji force, an all-volunteer unit under the Revolutionary Guards, has been central to quelling protests within the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, General Qasem Soleimani, a prominent militia leader, was reportedly killed in a U.S. airstrike earlier this week. However, Iran delayed confirming his death, keeping the details under wraps. The U.S. Treasury notes Soleimani was born in 1965, and he has faced sanctions for his role in suppressing dissent through the Basji.

Moqtada Khamenei, the eldest son of the late Ayatollah, was named as Soleimani’s successor. Yet, he survived a near-fatal attack and was secretly transported to Russia for urgent medical treatment. Al-Jarida, a Kuwaiti newspaper, claimed the new supreme leader was smuggled out of Iran after an airstrike killed his wife, mother, father, and son.

The evacuation reportedly took place in a Russian military plane, with Khamenei undergoing treatment in one of Putin’s presidential palaces. Medical reports vary, citing injuries from a broken foot to potential leg loss or even a coma. Al-Jarida cited an unverified source close to the Iranian leadership for these details.

Iran later asserted that Khamenei is still alive, countering claims of his demise following Trump’s suggestion that the new leader was ‘not’ dead. The event has sparked renewed tensions, with Khamenei issuing a vengeful statement demanding retaliation against the U.S. and its allies.
