British Airways stopping flights to war torn Middle East country until later this year

British Airways has suspended flights to multiple Middle East destinations due to the ongoing Iran conflict. The airline announced today that services to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv are canceled this month, reflecting heightened tensions in the region.

According to a statement released on March 10, the airline attributed the adjusted schedule to “continuing uncertainty” and “airspace instability” in the Middle East. It also mentioned halting daily rescue operations from Muscat starting after Thursday, citing decreased demand as a key factor.

Scam warnings and phishing attempts

“We’re keeping the situation under constant review and are in touch with our customers to offer them a range of options,” the statement added. “…We’re in touch with customers who we believe continue to be in the [United Arab Emirates] to support them and provide options for travel to the UK.”

British Airways issued a caution to travelers about fraudulent accounts impersonating the airline. Customers were urged to message the airline with their details and avoid suspicious links. One user shared screenshots of interactions with fake Qatar Airways representatives, including a claim about a non-existent rescue flight.

Amid the disruptions, Middle Eastern nations have closed a major air route in response to the US and Israel-led strike on Iran. This action prompted major carriers to cancel thousands of flights or divert routes away from affected zones. Airports in the region, known for handling tens of thousands of international passengers daily, are critical global transit hubs.
